Edison -1P – Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge

The Edison-1P is the precision model in Modsonic’s Edison series of Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges. Unlike the standard Edison-1 which has 0.1 mm resolution, the Edison-1P offers a higher reading resolution of 0.01 mm and a measuring accuracy of ±0.04 mm — making it significantly more precise for applications requiring fine dimensional measurement.

The Edison-1P is ideal for measuring the dimensional accuracy of machined, pressed, or drawn parts where tight tolerances need to be verified. It is well suited for quality control in precision manufacturing environments such as automotive components, turned parts, sheet metal pressing, and aerospace components where standard 0.1 mm resolution is insufficient.

The Edison-1P provides a reading resolution of 0.01 mm and a measuring accuracy of ±0.04 mm — ten times finer resolution than the standard Edison-1. This level of precision makes it suitable for verifying dimensional tolerances on precision-machined and formed components.

Like all models in the Edison series, the Edison-1P can measure thickness of any homogeneous material that transmits ultrasonic energy, including most metals, hard plastics, glass, and ceramics. It measures from one accessible side without cutting or dismantling the component.

The Edison-1P uses a Dual Crystal (Transmitter-Receiver) type probe with a detachable probe cable, consistent with the Edison series. The velocity range is adjustable from 1000 m/s to 9999 m/s to accommodate different materials beyond steel.

The Edison-1P features a large LCD display showing thickness readings, velocity, battery check, coupling check, and stored readings with IDs — including the precision 0.01 mm readout. It has a sealed tactile touch keypad for protection in industrial environments, and an optional EL backlight for use in dark or indoor areas.

The Edison-1P operates on two standard AA size Penlite dry cells (alkaline or NiCd) with 18 to 20 hours of operating time on alkaline batteries. It shares the same compact form factor as the Edison series — 125×65×30 mm — and weighs approximately 225 grams with batteries, making it easy to use on the production floor or inspection bench.
